Metalworking Fluids

Water-soluble and oil-soluble PAG base fluids for cutting, grinding, and forming operations, superior cooling, lubrication, and clean performance.

Performance Advantages

Why PAG for Metalworking Fluids

Dual solubility

Water-soluble PAGs provide excellent cooling and chip flushing in water-based formulations, while oil-soluble PAGs provide superior lubrication in neat oil applications.

Low foaming

PAG base fluids have inherently low foam tendency, improving performance in high-speed machining and grinding operations where foam reduces cooling efficiency.

Hard water stability

Water-soluble PAGs resist precipitation in hard water, extending fluid life and reducing maintenance requirements.

Biostability

PAG-based formulations show improved resistance to microbial growth compared to mineral oil-based emulsions, reducing the frequency of fluid changes and associated downtime.

Formulation Guidance

Compatible Additives

Antifoam

Non-silicone polymer-based antifoam

50–200 ppm for water-soluble formulations where silicone is undesirable

Antioxidant

BHT (Butylated Hydroxytoluene)

0.1–0.5% for oil-soluble forming fluids

Corrosion Inhibitor

Amine-based

For water-soluble formulations to protect ferrous workpieces

Technical Reference

Technical Notes

Operating temperature range: ambient to 150°C. Water-soluble PAGs typically diluted to 5–10% in water for semi-synthetic formulations. Compatible with most ferrous and non-ferrous metals. PAG residues are water-soluble and easily cleaned, unlike mineral oil residues. Relevant standards: ISO 6743-7 (Metalworking fluids), DIN 51385 (Metalworking fluid classification), ASTM D6794 (Metalworking fluid properties).
